What a wonderful five days we shared! Our 50th school reunion was filled with fun, laughter, and so many special moments. It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly 50 years since we left school! We reconnected with old friends, made new ones, and felt the warmth of being together again. Even those who couldn’t be with us in person were part of it all through WhatsApp messages and video greetings sent from around the world.
Here’s what we got up to during our reunion:
- A tour of Rustenburg Junior School
- A walk through Rustenburg High School
- A lovely celebration lunch in the Thomson Hall and Quad
- A peaceful guided walk at Kirstenbosch Gardens
- A relaxed braai (barbecue) with our partners at a classmate’s home
- A visit to Robin Trust, our chosen charity, with tea afterwards
- A gentle movement class in Kalk Bay, followed by tea and good conversation
We also created a beautiful E75 50th Reunion Booklet, filled with memories, life stories, and reflections from many of us — a keepsake to treasure.
A very touching part of our reunion was hearing Leslie Macleod-Downes (Bensimon) (E75) speak about Robin Trust, the charity she started after facing her own challenges. Robin Trust is doing amazing work helping others, and their motto, “Care brings hope,” truly says it all.
A huge thank you to our amazing organising team for putting together such a meaningful event. And special thanks to Asonele Kotu, our Alumnae Relations Officer, for her help, and to the school for letting us host our main event on campus.
This reunion reminded us of how lucky we are — for the friendships we’ve kept, the memories we share, and the chance to give back. We’re already looking forward to keeping in touch and seeing each other again in the future!
With heartfelt thanks,
Elizabeth (Lil) Mathew (Stephen)
