Honouring one of SA’s Most talented TV Producers, Directors and Writers
Nicola Greenwall is a former TV-presenter, entertainment journalist and producer. Her print journalism has been featured in Marie Claire, Elle, Seventeen, Glamour, and the Sunday Times publications. Her recent debut novel, “A Short Life”, published in 2024, was listed for the Sunday Times Literary Award and short-listed for the Neilsen SA Book Awards. This superbly written murder mystery is South African fiction at its best.
While still attending the High School, Nicky had her first job as a co-presenter in a local educational series. Here she discovered her love for the camera. Nicky chose to follow a career in advertising at the Red and Yellow School and graduated in 1998, having studied art. She became the art director at TBWA Advertising Agency in Cape Town and in Johannesburg and thereafter at The Jupiter Drawing Room.
As a TV producer, Nicky became the arts anchor for E News. Her talent allowed her to host Nightlife, a program that interviewed Mzansi celebrities.
Nicky met her partner, Robbin Fryer in 2003 and they have 2 children, Georgina and Riley. In 2004 Nicky relocated to Cape Town. Her suggestion for an entertainment news program launched the popular Showbiz Report.
In 2016, Nicky wrote a book, “I’m Famous in South Africa” and two years later she produced a documentary titled “The Beautiful People”. She is best known for directing multiple award-winning shows, among them “Beautiful People”, “The Close-up”, “The Showbiz Report” and “Behind The Name”.
At the moment, Nicky manages Greenwall Productions, a company she founded in 2009 and has produced several programs related to the Mzansi market. She is currently also the international marketing manager of Twenty Modelling Agency. Nicky has been nominated twice for her exemplary work in the film industry: In 2018 for Best Documentary by International Fashion Film Awards and for Best Fashion Documentary.
Nicky’s outstanding contributions gained her acknowledgement as one of Mail and Guardians Top 200 young South Africans. She is an amazing ambassador for Rustenburg Girls’ High School.
